Obama Nominates Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court

President Obama has nominated Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. Kagan would the third female on the court and the court's youngest justice. Kagan has also never served as a judge in any court, making her, if seated the first such High Court jurist in almost 40 years.

Addressing the economic impact

economyTHE Bahamas has not seen any major changes to its real estate conveyancing laws for more than 100 years, an attorney said yesterday, stating that this jurisdiction was really playing “catch up” on the issue.

Sharlyn Smith, an attorney at Sharon Wilson and Company, who will address the issue of land security and conveyancing laws at the 22nd annual Bahamas Business Outlook (BBO) this Thursday, described the economic impact of these issues as “quite significant”.

Giving a preview of her presentation, Mrs Smith said: "We will look at the fact that we have not had any comprehensive changes in the laws related to the transfer of real property in over 100 years."
